Volunteers Needed for PET Imaging Study!

Volunteers Needed for PET Imaging Study!

Why is this study being done?Researchers at Indiana University School of Medicine are studying the use of a new imaging agent called Cu-ETS (Copper-ETS) in positron-emission tomography (PET) to detect blood flow in normal tissues.  An imaging agent is a tracer that is a special dye containing radioactive tracers that are either swallowed, inhaled, or injected intovein in your arm depending on what part of the body is being examined. When detected by a PET scanner, the tracers help your doctor to see how well your organs and tissues are working.  Copper-ETS is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), however it has been approved by the Radioactive Drug Research Committee (RDRC) for use in this research. We hope to learn more about whether Copper-ETS PET will provide useful information about the blood flow in people with normal tissues, as well as about patterns of blood flow in people who have tissue disturbed by medical conditions, such as cancer and heart disease.  Who can take part in this study?Adults who are 20-80 years of age and are able to complete a PET scan at Goodman Hall on IUPUI in Indianapolis, IN (if female, must not currently be pregnant).

Healthy Volunteers Needed for MRI Brain Imaging Study

Why is this study being done? The purpose of this study is to image the brain using MRI. The brain naturally changes with age, but the causes behind these changes are largely unknown. We are developing new imaging technology to early detect small changes in the brain. The goal of our study is to increase our understanding of how the brain – specifically, its CSF flow dynamic – naturally changes with age. If proven successful, the new imaging tool can help early diagnose Alzheimer’s disease. Who can take part in this study?Healthy adults, ages 35 and older older, who do not have a history of neurodegenerative disorder, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, or previous brain surgery.

Did you know that each week, around 100 of your fellow Hoosiers give a vial of blood to help medical researchers? This blood is kept by the Indiana Biobank, a project that is designed to help provide researchers across the state - and even across the nation - with biological samples that they can then use to develop new medicines, better understand diseases, and improve patient care. To date, more than 50,000 people have provided blood samples, and the goal is to collect many more over the coming years.Biobanks need the public’s input on some important issues ranging from figuring how much information biobanks should be gathering about donors to what types of research biobanks should support. We are inviting people from across the state to participate in a project called “The Biobanking in Indiana Public Deliberation.” It is a research study at the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), a research collaborative between Indiana University, Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame.  The project will take place over two weekends during which time participants will learn about the issues, share their perspectives on them, and work together to make recommendations for biobank policy and guidelines. We are not expecting you to have any specialized knowledge about biobanks or research. Instead, you will learn everything you need to know to contribute with the other participants. Your perspectives and life experiences matter – not your expertise!

Why is this study being done? This research is being done so that we can learn more about helping Black and African-American women who want to improve their diabetes self-care behaviors. Specifically, we are testing a treatment called Diabetes Tune-Up Group. You can choose to complete the treatment either online or in person. Who can take part in this study?Women (ages 21 and older) who identify as Black or African-American, are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and are interested in improving diabetes self-care behaviors.
