VETERANS ADMINISTRATION (Roudebush VA Medical Center) Research studies conducted at the VA, enrolling VA patients or personnel, or using VA resources, must be first approved by the VA Research and Development Committee (VA R&D). The VA R&D Committee is required to review any and all research being conducted at the VA. Their review is primarily for scientific merit, but also for appropriateness in light of VA resources and population. They meet monthly on the third Thursday, except in March, June, September and December when VA Merit submissions are due. Research studies must have both IUPUI/Clarian IRB and VA R&D Committee approval. While maintaining an individual Federal Wide Assurance, the VA R&D Committee designates the IUPUI/Clarian IRBs as their affiliate subcommittee (The VA should be checked as a site for approval on the IRB Summary Safeguard Statement) and final VA approval will not be given until document of IRB approval is received in the VA Research Office (D-3040).
