Biomedical Informatics Program

The Indiana CTSI Biomedical Informatics Program will provide investigators with ready access to a variety of software tools, databases, and support systems that will greatly facilitate the performance of clinical and translational research. This program will substantially enhance the types and scope of studies possible and thus transform translational research. IU CTSI faculty in the Regenstrief Institute will bring expertise to the national CTSA network founded on more than 40 years of organizational experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining clinical information systems and in the use of clinical databases for research. By engaging researchers in the design and development of new tools and research development processes, we will substantially increase the innovative use of these systems for translational research. Effective utilization of informatics resources will increase as we expand and refine the data available to researchers within an integrated knowledge and data environment that maximizes the unique collaborative cyber-gateway of the indianactsi.org. This integrated environment will permit clinical data, related biospecimens, and derivative data to be appropriately and creatively shared by many investigators through the indianactsi.org and its rich, web-based simulations. We also will improve the stock of software tools available for conceptualization, planning, implementation, data collection, and outcomes measurement activities of translational research.
