The Biomedical Engineering and Bionanotechnology Program Area will transform the engineering-clinical research partnership to allow clinical trial planning to occur early in the device development process, encourage clinical investigator participation via the communication of unmet clinical needs and access to unique patient populations, and foster partnerships with regional companies to ensure subsequent device manufacturing and widespread patient access to the most helpful technologies. The collaborative partnership in the CTSI will enable biomedical engineering and bionanotechnology researchers to utilize streamlined mechanisms to partner with clinical researchers and, therefore, will help diminish the gap between engineering discovery and clinical impact.
